Fabien is a scientist, technologist, and innovator who spent his career leading high-impact initiatives and teams focused on harnessing the power of data, technology, and design to tackle environmental and sustainability issues. Up until recently, Fabien led Technology and Innovation and Ocean Conservation at the Minderoo Foundation. Prior to this, Fabien served as Vice President for National Geographic Technology Innovation Labs where he oversaw the strategy, design and development of advanced digital products and engineering projects in support of National Geographic’s exploration and storytelling, including helping to lead the development of National Geographic’s Ocean Plastic Innovation Challenge. Fabien served 4 years in the Obama White House where his roles included Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Science and Technology Policy and at the Council on Environmental Quality, Director of the National Climate Assessment, Deputy Director at the National Ocean Council, Director of the Climate Data Initiative, Director of the Arctic Mapping Initiative, and Lead for Climate Change Implications for National Security. Fabien also held various leadership positions in the U.S. Global Change Research Program where he directed the coordination and prioritization of federal climate change research and its multi billion annual investments. He holds a PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the Université Paris-Sorbonne.
